P&G Earns Two Sustainability Honors


P&G has been awarded the inaugural Social Innovation Award for 2009 by the Financial Times and Just Means. The Social Innovation Award, sponsored by HP, showcases companies and people that are shaping the new world of sustainable business. These awards were given to companies that demonstrate progressive thinking in weaving social and environmental innovation throughout their core strategies.

The award was announced at the Sustainable Business, Responsible Investing event in New York City on March 2, 2009.

P&G was one of only two winners in the over $500 million revenue category. P&G was specifically recognized for the Company's packaging innovations that have advanced the Company's sustainability goals resulting in less material used, reduced CO2 emissions and reduced water and energy use. The other winners of the Social Innovation Award include:

Large companies with revenue over $500 million - REI
Small to medium company with revenue between $5 million and $500 million - Equal Exchange
Startup company with revenue between $500,000 and $5 million - Clear Standards

P&G has also been included in the prestigious 100 Best Corporate Citizens 2009, compiled by CRO (Corporate Responsibility Officer) Magazine. Published annually, the list ranks the corporate responsibility efforts of large-cap companies from the Russell 1000 index in eight categories: Climate Change, Employee Relations, Environment, Financial, Governance, Human Rights, Lobbying and Philanthropy. CRO determined the final ranking as a weighted average of these eight categories. P&G was ranked in the top quartile, with high marks in Environment and Human Rights.
