What should we install? High-speed, dedicated processes, designed for large throughputs of a single product and low operating unit costs; or simple, low-capacity, flexible, high-manual equipment that would be amenable to the manufacture of multiple brands with maximum responsiveness to product change? Should it be proprietary equipment to meet the unusual needs of a unique product such as Pringles® or off-the-shelf commercial equipment?
